Weekly Holy Moly Report — Lake Stevens

We are one week away from the 7th Annual Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby and fishing has been pretty good lately.  I got the chance this last Wednesday and Thursday nights to do some fishing after work and had a blast.  Weather has been phenomenal with upper 70's and 80 degree nights, and fish on the bite.  This does bring about one challenge on this popular lake and that is recreational boaters.  I don't blame them for wanting to be out and enjoying the lake either, but just be aware and keep a safe eye out so everyone can enjoy the day. What a three day weekend! This was much needed fishing time to get me through a tough work week.  With the kitchen pass open I headed out the door Thursday night for some Cowlitz River Steelhead and Springers in the Morning.  I was too anxious upon getting to the river to even think about sleeping as I saw multiple people walking out with nice steelhead caught just before I had arrived.  (Note: The Cowlitz river is open legally at night for steelhead fishing at the blue creek trout hatchery).  I quickly threw on my hip waders, grabbed my gear and set...

The warm weather has begun the kokanee craze here on the west side of Washington State.  Each year, early season kokanee are some of the most fun and easy fish to catch on our local lakes.  They stay high in the water column, and targeting them can be done without downriggers.  To me watching a top lined rod double over is absolutely awesome.  This trip was a great example of it.  I was testing the recently acquired trolling motor (works like a dream) and running two top lined rods off the side of the boat and one on the down...
